The Jewellery and Metals Program

Jewellery, or jewelry. It doesn’t matter how you spell it, Georgian College’s Jewellery and Metals programs in the School of Design and Visual Arts offers a comprehensive education in all facets of jewellery studies.

Casting, fabrication, stone setting, silversmithing and goldsmithing, gemmology, repairs and lapidary are some of the courses in the two and three year programs offered at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. Jewellery design and drawing classes add to the studio focused courses that are designed to graduate students with all the skills necessary to be successful in this field.

Program Highlights

The Jewellery and Metals Program reflects the best aspects of a vocational school training, art college aesthetics and higher education academics. Our objective is to develop practical jewellers and metalsmiths, capable of creating and producing both unique and limited production objects.

The Practical Approach

Our programs encourage links with the jewellery industry. The awards and scholarships that are available to our students are a direct result of the high regard the industry has for the jewellery programs at Georgian College. Two student-organized jewellery sales are held yearly, at Christmas and Valentine's Day, as well as at sales opportunities at our annual Scholarship Exhibition. The Goldsmithing Graduate Show travels to sales venues around Ontario. Two Toronto field trips are arranged each year to investigate future sales venues and meet with tool and material suppliers. Students also have the opportunity to view a range of exhibitions directly associated with the jewellery industry. These types of experiences are considered critical in a student’s development and ultimate career success.
